Jade House

Just finished this piece and may attempt to make a pillow if I can figure out how. I may have to do some adjustments to it first.

Party girl corner in Stepping Out Challenge mat is starting to take shape. Not in picture, but I bravely rehooked twins faces because the studio dyed yarn ,color rhubarb  had a section perfect for faces. So much happier with all 3 faces now. Working my way across the center and upper mat right now.

Next installment in story: I am meeting up with my identical twin sister who I have seen once , last year, before that it was 27 years since we last saw each other. And, her daughter of 32 years may join us. I last saw her when she was 5 years old.  More to this story of renewal of family ties, next post.

Bluebells

Trying to do an impression of bluebells. Harder than I imagined!  But I love them so much that if I can capture even a glimmer of their essence I'll probably feel happiness when I look at the hooking.

Little House on the Prairie

I live on the praries, and I love it here. Would love to live outside of the city again, so this is my Little House on the Prairie dream home mat. Small with a little garage, and lots of wide open space. . .

Rug of many colors

This is the rug I have been working on since mastectomy surgery on March 10th. It is recycled clothes, Briggs and Little yarn, some studio dyed yarn and wool cloth. It was fun!  I have a new grand baby on the way so I think it will look good in a nursery.

Bathing Beauties

I just hung this rug up once again to enjoy during spring and summer. I hooked it a couple years ago to commemorate an experience I had while meditating one day. I was sitting near an open window in my bedroom trying to quiet my mind. I'd been trying off and on for years to develop a regular habit of meditation/contemplation without much success. This time I was determined to keep at it till I "got it right." Before long, I started hearing a lot of bird chatter which I found distracting, but I tried to stay relaxed and just concentrate on my breathing as I'd been taught. The noise not only continued but  increased in both volume and intensity, however, to the point where I could no longer ignore it. Annoyed, I turned to look out the window to see what was causing all the commotion and possibly shoo the noisemakers away. To my astonishment and delight, the bird bath just a few yards away on the patio was full of bluebirds, probably at least 10 or 12, very vocally splashing around in the

Recently I went to see the movie Maudie which I loved. I loved it for one reason mainly. They captured the heart of being an artist. When I went bible study the next day, Cynthia, a former artist told me that she had read Lance Woolaver's book, A Heart at the Door and that there was a lot of artistic licence in the movie. Her life was much tougher than was portrayed in the movie. As Cynthia said, "Everett was no Ethan Hawke."
I had left the movie wondering what was accurate and what was not. I had known very little about her. So I ordered Woolaver's book from the library and am waiting for it to come. The movie Maudie is a story, and is told sweetly and sensitively.
After watching it I was inspired to come home and make work straight from my heart. When a movie can do that to someone who has been making art for twenty five years I think it did a lot right.
The next night I stayed home and made a simple little house rug with a few flowers.
I just wanted to hook pretty.

Irises by the bay

Finished the water! I ripped out and reworked some parts. There is a large section of the brighter blue in the middle panel that I may break up with some dark. Does anyone else see it? I may be overthinking it.  But other than that I think I am ready to move on to the next video!

Smelt Storms

Sometimes life can be compared to a smelt storm. I have been thinking about this a lot lately, because I would like to a series of rugs entitled "The Smelt Storms".

I want to show you some little tips here on the Pom members site. Right now I am crazy about flower pots. These are very simple designs I am doing right now but it is their simplicity that is difficult to carry off. For this orange pot I used sexy jersey and highlighted it with rust slub. I wanted a clean looking pot with not too much colour . The pot cannot compete with the flowers in these rugs. The pot has a very simple shape. Lean and long, and only two colours mixed together. I think it is the texture of the slub that works here and lends a bit extra to the pot with out overtaking the flowers.

What is inspiring you this week?

What would you like to learn about rug hooking? I am asking...
Good Morning,

This week I had a hike in Economy. We drove down a long dirt road through fields and woods until we turned right onto a narrow gravel road. We were far away from the community and I as continued I felt a little lonely, perhaps a little vulnerable. When we got out of the car and started into the woods, Katherine, my friend asked if the bears were out of hibernation yet. I just smiled to myself and said "Yes, I think they are."

We were on a small flat trail that wound around the narrow cove like a strand of wool. As we left the red cliffs on the waters edge we followed a carpet of green moss through the woods. We were alone in those woods, just us and whatever creatures were hiding away in the trees. That little fairy land of moss with the light shining through the trees made you feel like you were in Lord of the Rings. This fantastical landscape was there waiting for us just off the beaten p

Playful is best

Hey everyone, I have not had coffee or eaten my breakfast yet but I had an urge to visit with you here.  Right now I am so excited. It's thursday so we do our live which always gets me rolling. Last week I took a long walk on the marsh with friends and while there we began playing with our portrait mode on our iphones using the studio light mode and we got some fun results. I just wanted to show you what I discovered just by playing.…
